Close Studies

These drawings use charcoal, graphite, and ink to explore the body, portraiture, and landscape through close, sustained observation. Figures—often drawn from the artist and people personally known—are approached as sites of familiarity rather than spectacle. Landscapes function less as place than as emotional or remembered space, shaped by line, pressure, and erasure. Across the work, drawing becomes a method of slowing down, recording presence, and attending to what is held over time.
